Getting Started When you are using the RunDynam software for the first time, the easiest way to get started and run your first Base Case and Policy simulations is to start from a set of example files prepared by an experienced user. These files are collected together into a Zip Archive. Installing the example files In the Zip Menu, select the menu item Restore Ingredients from Zip Archive. You will be asked for the name of the Zip Archive to restore from. The Open box goes to the subdirectory ARCHIVE. Select one of the ZIP files present in this subdirectory. You will be asked for a directory to restore the files into. Create a new directory for these files to keep them separate from other files on your machine. Say Yes when asked to confirm where the various files are to be placed. Base Case Look at the different pages of the tabbed notebook: Model/Data, Sim Overview, Closure/Shock and you will see that all the information necessary for the Base case/ Policy Runs is present. Click on the Run Base Case button at the bottom of your screen. This will write the BAT files necessary for the Base Case simulations and also the Command files (CMF) needed for the run. Answer Yes to say that you want to run the job now. This usually takes a while since separate simulations are run for each of the years in the base run. When the base case run has completed, the Results page will open and you can look at the results from the base Case in a spreadsheet. Rerun Base If you are rerunning the base with policy closures, next click on Rerun Base. Again it will take a while. When complete look at the results for the Rerun - they should be very similar to the results for the base case run. Policy Next click on Run Policy button at the bottom of your screen to carry out the policy deviation run. When this is complete you have carried out a complete job and can look at all the Solutions and data files on the Results page. This completes the example. To see what sort of files you need to run your own Policy Runs you can look at the files referred to on the various pages of the tabbed notebook. Often if you select a filename listed on the Model/Data or Closure/Shock page, you can right-click to see the file in the editor or select a different file to replace it. This Help file contains a large amount of detailed information. If printed as a normal A4 document, it would be over 100 pages long. We encourage you to use this Help file frequently. In particular, if RunDynam gives you a message you are uncertain about and this message contains a Help button, click on that Help button since you will get context-sensitive help.
