Base Case

To carry out a base case, you specify

the starting data files. You do this in the data part of the Model/Data page.

the starting year and the number of years in the base case. You do this on the Sim Overview page (where you must also specify some other information).

the closures and shocks for each relevant year. You do this on the Closure/Shock page.

Before you run the base case, you may also wish to ask the software to check the closures and shocks files, which you can do by selecting Tasks | Check all base-case closures and shocks from the main menu. This will alert you quickly to any problems in the closures and shocks files.

Then you can click on the Run Base Case button to tell the software to carry out the base case, which it does by solving the model for each relevant year. After the first year in the base case, the starting data for a year is always the updated (that is, post-simulation) data from the previous year. The results are a spreadsheet showing the percentage changes (from the pre-simulation database) in the different years of the base case.

When you have run the base case, you may rerun the base case with the policy closures, or you may go straight to the policy deviation run (where you apply the policy shocks).
