Starting Data Files There are two types of data files in RunDynam: the Starting Data files prepared before the simulation by the user, and the data files for later years that are generated as updated files by the simulations as they run. The Starting Data files are also referred to as the First Year Input files and are files for the pre-simulation database. For example, if the starting year is 2001, the data files on the Model/Data page should contain 2000 data. The statements in the Input Files for the First Year box are in a form similar to file statements in Command files, namely file <logical name> = <actual file name > ; The list of logical names is found from the TABLO Input file of the model. If the actual file name has not been selected, the actual file name is given as ???. Various actions such as selecting the actual file name can be carried out by right-clicking on the file statement. Any time you have selected a group of input data files for the model, you can save this group by clicking on Save As…. The file you save must have suffix .MDF (which is an abbreviation for group of Model Data Files). Then, at any time in the future when you are working with the same model, you can easily revert to this group of input files via the Load button. [Some models only have one input data file; then the group of input data file is just the name of this one file. Other models have several input data files; then the group of input data files consists of the names of each of these files.] After the first year, the updated database for the first year is used as the initial data for the second year. Then the second year is solved and the updated database is used as the initial data for the third year and so on. In this way a sequence of linked annual simulations can be calculated. Normally the short file names for two different Starting Data files must be different.
