Sim Names and Closure/Shocks Page

You should think of the Sim Names as shorthand descriptions for the relevant columns on the Closure/Shocks page.

You should think of the Sim Name for the Base as a shorthand description of the Base Closures and Shocks. Accordingly you should think of the Sim Name for the Base as being associated with the Base Closures and the Base Shocks columns on the Closure/Shocks page. The Sim Name for the Base must also cover the other user input which affects the Base -- that includes the information on the Model/Data page. Hence, if you are changing the starting data or the model, you should choose a different Sim Name for the Base.

If you are doing the Rerun, you should think of the Sim Name for the Rerun as a shorthand description of the Policy Closures and you should think of the Sim Name for the Policy as a shorthand description of the Policy Shocks. Accordingly you should think of the Sim Names for the Rerun and Policy as being associated with the Policy Closures and Policy Shocks columns respectively on the Closure/Shocks page.

If you are not doing the Rerun (that is, you are not rerunning the Base with the Policy Closures), the Sim Name for the Rerun plays no role. You should think of the Sim Name for the Policy as a shorthand description of the Policy Closures and Policy Shocks columns of the Closure/Shocks pages. Accordingly you should think of the Sim Name for the Policy as being associated with the Policy Closures and Policy Shocks columns on the Closure/Shocks page.

Suppose, for example, that you wish to retain the results from several different sets of Policy Shocks in the same Working Directory. Then you should use different Policy Sim Names to correspond to these different sets of Policy Shocks.

Suppose that you wish to retain results relating to several different sets of Base Closures and Base Shocks in the same Working Directory. Then you should use different Base Sim Names to correspond to these different sets of Base Closures and Base Shocks.

Choosing appropriate Sim Names is a vital part of managing several different applications in the same directory.

The Sim Name associated with each column on the Closure/Shocks page is shown above each column in the Part row. The patterns shown in the Pattern row are suggestions for file names.

The Sim Name for the Base must also cover the all user input which affects the Base -- that includes the information on the Model/Data page, as well as the information in the Base Closures and Base Shocks columns on the Closure/Shocks page. Hence, if you are changing the starting data or the model, you should choose a different Sim Name for the Base. For example, if you have two sets of starting data which specify different values of the Armington parameters (or other parameters), you should choose different Base Sim Names if you wish to preserve both sets of results in the same directory.
