Patterns on Closure/Shocks Page and Sim Names

The patterns shown in the Pattern row on the Closure/Shocks page are related to the Sim Names shown on the Sim Overview page.

For example, suppose that the Sim Names are BS1 (Base), BR1 (Rerun) and PL1 (Policy).

If you are doing the Rerun, the Pattern headings are BS1BYYYY.CLS (Base Closures), BS1BYYYY.BSH (Base Shocks), BR1RYYYY.CLS (Policy Closure) and PL1PYYYY.PSH (Policy Shocks). [The Policy Closure pattern was changed with Version 3.1 to use the Rerun Sim Name. Previously, the Policy Sim Name had been used.]

If you are not doing the Rerun, the Pattern headings are the same as above except that the pattern for the Policy Closures column is PL1PYYYY.CLS. [The Rerun Sim Name is never used if you are not doing the Rerun.]

In some cases you might like to follow these patterns for the names of the files on the Closure/Shocks page. These patterns may be more useful for the names of Shocks files than for the names of Closure files (since the closure tends to be the same for several different years).

You can indicate that files in selected cells have names determined by these patterns by clicking on the Follow Pattern button on the Closure/Shocks page.

When You Change a Sim Name

If you change one of the Sim Names on the Sim Overview page, the relevant patterns change in the obvious way.

Normally, certain file names on the Closure/Shocks page may also change as a consequence. Specifically, any file name which agreed with the pattern based on the old Sim Name is changed to the file name based on the new pattern and Sim Name.

For example, suppose that you change the Sim Name for the Base from BS1 to BSX. Suppose that the Base Closure files for years 2002 and 2003 were called BS1B2002.CLS (which follows the pattern for that year based on the original Sim Name BS1) and BS2003.CLS respectively. Then the 2002 file name will be changed to BSXB2002.CLS (the new pattern based on BSX) while the 2003 file name will not be changed (since it does not match the pattern based on BS1).

If you do not wish file names to change like that, you can select menu item

Ignore Patterns when Change Sim Names under the Options menu.
