Checks About Output Files Being Locked By Another Program

This is the third of the checks carried out before RunDynam starts a job running.

When you start a run, RunDynam checks each of the output files to be created during the run (for example, all the Solution and updated data files and the different spreadsheet files) to see that a new version can be created.

If you have an existing version of one of these files open in another program, the file may be locked in the sense that a new version of the file cannot be created until you close that program. For example, if you have the Base year-on-year spreadsheet open in Excel when you start to run all years of the Base, RunDynam will alert you to this and suggest that you cancel the job until you have exited from Excel.

Spreadsheet programs (including Microsoft Excel) usually lock the files open in them. So do some editors including Microsoft Word. However TABmate, ViewSOL and ViewHAR do not lock the files open in them

The checks about files being locked are carried out just after you click on Ok (instead of Cancel) to start the job running. [This is done as part of moving or deleting outputs before the run. The checking about files being locked is done irrespective of which of the 3 Move/Delete Outputs Before Run options you have selected.]
