ViewSOL and Graphs Covering All or Some Years This describes what you see when you click on the Graph/ViewSOL button on the Results page. When you click on this button, ViewSOL runs and loads a Sequence file (see the Time Series menu in ViewSOL). You can look at the results for all or several years of the run selected in the Which Run group. Which solutions are loaded by ViewSOL is determined by the selection you have made from the Which Run group. •If you have selected Base or Base Rerun, ViewSOL will load just the solutions from that run. The initial setting of Style (Year-on-Year or Cumulative) in ViewSOL (see Style under ViewSOLs Time Series menu) is determined by the corresponding choice in the Style group on the Results page of RunDynam. [In either case, ViewSOLs View choice will show Base solution.] •If you have selected Policy or Differences, ViewSOL will load the solutions from the policy run and also from the relevant base case (namely the Base Rerun if option Do Rerun Base Case with Policy Closures under the main Run Preferences menu is checked, or the Base otherwise). In this case the initial setting of ViewSOLs Show and Style options (see ViewSOLs Time Series menu) are determined by your selections in the Which Run and Style groups on the Results page of RunDynam. oViewSOLs Show initial setting is determined by the Which Run choice in RunDynam. If Policy is selected, ViewSOL opens showing what it calls the Perturbed solution (which is what RunDynam calls the Policy run), whereas if Differences is selected in RunDynams Which Run group then ViewSOL opens showing what it calls the Difference. oThe initial setting of Style (Year-on-Year or Cumulative) in ViewSOL (see Style under ViewSOL's Time Series menu) is determined by the corresponding choice in the Style group on the Results page of RunDynam. Once ViewSOL has loaded the relevant sequence, you can change the Style and View by using ViewSOLs Time Series menu if you wish. Only the initial Style and View are affected by the choices on RunDynams results page. You can produce graphs showing results over the years you have loaded into ViewSOL. For more details about this and the many other features of ViewSOL you should consult ViewSOLs own help file. What happens when you click on the Graph/ViewSOL button is also determined by the Which Years choice on RunDynams results page. If All is selected, ViewSOL loads the relevant sequence. If Some is selected, ViewSOL first shows a file dialog box containing the names of the relevant Sequence files (they have suffix .SEQ). If you have run spreadsheet jobs covering just some years of the whole simulation, the Sequence files covering just these years will be available for loading into ViewSOL. The start and end dates are indicated in the names. Run and Style groups. For example, suppose that the 3-letter Sim Names are BS1 (Base), BR1 (Rerun) and PL1 (Policy). Suppose that you have run spreadsheet jobs for years 2002-2006. Then the Sequence files produced will be called BS1B-2002-2006.SEQ (Base), BS1B-BR1R-2002-2006.SEQ (Rerun), BS1B-BR1R-PL1P-2002-2006.SEQ (Policy) and BS1B-BR1R-PL1P-DEV-2002-2006.SEQ (if you select this you will see the differences between the Policy and the Rerun and Policy results for these years). When you click on the Graph/ViewSOL button, the file dialog box presented shows the available files. The files you see depend on what you have selected in the Which Run group. •If you have selected Base, you will see files of the form BS1B*.SEQ. •If you have selected Rerun, you will see files of the form BS1B-BR1R*.SEQ. •If you have selected Policy, you will see files of the form BS1B-BR1R-PL1P*.SEQ. When you load such a file, ViewSOL shows you the year-on-year or cumulative (depending on what you have selected in the Style group on the Results page of RunDynam) results from the Policy. [You can change the Show and Style settings in ViewSOL afterwards.] •If you have selected Differences, you will see files of the form BS1B-BR1R-PL1P*.SEQ. When you load such a file, ViewSOL shows you the cumulative differences between the Policy and the Rerun results. [You can change the Show and Style settings in ViewSOL afterwards.] The results for all variables should be available via ViewSOL. In particular, ViewSOL does not use the Mapping File for Results (see RunDynams Sim Overview page) which determines the variables shown on the spreadsheets prepared by RunDynam.
