Change in Sim Details Files Saved with Version 3.18 (April 2007)

If old versions of this program (Version 3.14 or earlier) try to read Sim Details files saved with Version 3.18 or later, they may show slightly strange behaviour.

Suppose that the simulation in question is one which could be represented faithfully in Version 3.14. [That is, suppose there are no Common closure or shocks files, CMFSTART file names follow the conventions with Version 3.14, and there are no more than 98 simulation periods.] Then the old programs will be able to read and interpret Sim Details as stored by Version 3.18 or later.

Otherwise, Version 3.14 will not be able to read and interpret the Sim Details as stored by Version 3.18 or later. Nor will they give an error message when reading such Sim Details. However, after the change made with Version 3.18, they will at least show a message on the Closure/Shocks page which may alert the user to the problem. The first 3 lines on the Closure/Shocks page will look something like that shown below.

If you send a ZIP archive made with Version 3.18 or later to a colleague who is working with Version 3.14 or earlier, that is what will happen if they restore the ingredients. Please be aware of this and warn them. If necessary, they should contact the Centre of Policy Studies to upgrade their version of the software.

[Versions 3.15 to 3.17 used a different format for .DS2 files and .DS2 files produced by them and read by Version 3.14 or later behaved even more strangely. Fortunately these Versions 3.15 to 3.17 were only used by a small number of users who have now upgraded to Version 3.18.]
