Top of Sim Overview Page and Years on Closure/Shocks Page

The three items at the top of the Sim Overview page drive the years shown in the left-hand column on the Closure/Shocks page. [If you change any of the information in these three items, these years on the Closure/Shocks page will change.] The examples below will make this clear.

Example

Suppose that the top of the Sim Overview page shows

Start from data for year 2003.

Number of periods in Base Case is 6. Maximum number of periods is 999. [Prior to Version 3.15 (November 2006) the maximum was 99.]

Lengths of Periods are 2,3,4,1,1,1 respectively.

Then

the simulation for the first period produces data for year 2005. Start data represents year 2003 and the simulation produces updated data which represents year 2005 since the simulation covers 2 years (length of first period).

the simulation for the second period produces data for year 2008. This simulation starts from data representing year 2005 (as produced by the first simulation) and the simulation produces updated data which represents year 2008 since the simulation covers 3 years (length of second period).

the simulation for the third period produces data for year 2012 -- starts from data for 2008 and simulation covers 4 years.

the simulation for the fourth period produces data for year 2013 -- starts from data for 2012 and simulation covers 1 year.

the simulations for the fifth and sixth periods produce data for year 2014 and 2015 respectively since each simulation covers one year.

the years shown in the left-hand column on the Closure/Shocks page are 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 -- these are the years for which the 6 simulations produce data.

If you change any of the information in these three items, these years on the Closure/Shocks page will change.

For example,

suppose that you indicate to start from data for year 2006. Then the years shown on the Closure/Shocks page will be 2008, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2018.

suppose that you go back to starting from data for year 2003 but change the length of the 3rd period to 2 years. Then the years shown on the Closure/Shocks page will be 2008, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

suppose that you revert to the original lengths of the periods but reduce to 4 periods in the Base Case. Then the years shown on the Closure/Shocks page will be 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2013.

Note that the years shown in the left-hand column of the Closure/Shocks page affect the names of various results files.

Note that, prior to Version 3.14 (July 2006), all periods represented one year.
