I Want to Work with GTAP. Which GEMPACK Version Do I Need?

Please read the categories below and decide which applies to you. In each case you can find more information about the relevant version of GEMPACK by returning to the GEMPACK Versions Page.

Teaching or Basic Use

This applies if you want to carry out simulations with the standard GTAP model with up to 12 commodities and 12 regions. This does not apply if you need to modify the standard GTAP model.

You can work with RunGTAP as supplied by GTAP. You do not need to purchase GEMPACK or a GEMPACK licence.

Policy Analysis

This applies if you want to carry out simulations with the standard GTAP model with more than 12 commodities and/or 12 regions. This does not apply if you need to modify the standard GTAP model.

You need to purchase an Introductory GEMPACK licence. Or, if you are a university, use a Limited-Size Executable-Image licence which is available free to universities.

Beginning Modeller

This applies if you need to modify the standard GTAP model (that is, if you want to change any of the equations or want to add some new equations) but are content to work with up to 12 commodities and 12 regions.

You need to purchase the Limited Executable-Image Version of GEMPACK. This is available free to universities.

Serious Modeller

This applies if you need to modify the standard GTAP model and need to work with more than 12 commodities and/or 12 regions.

You need to purchase either the Unlimited Executable-Image Version of GEMPACK or a Source-Code Version of GEMPACK.

Note: The size limit (mentioned above) of 12 sectors or regions varies a little, according to which version of the GTAP model or GEMPACK is used. Prior to GEMPACK Release 10.0-001 (April 2009), the limit was 9 sectors or regions.
