The program may not be able to open this new file because an existing version of this file is open in another application (for example, a spreadsheet program or word processor).
Check this and close the file in that application. Then run the GEMPACK program again.
There may be another reason if you are using Windows 2000 or XP if you are not logged on as an Administrator. If you are trying to open a file to write to in a directory where you do not have permission to write, then GEMPACK may not be able to open a new file or write to it.
Consult your network administrator to find where you are allowed to write files.
If you are the only user on your computer, there is no need to have any type of File Sharing in Windows.
To turn off "Simple File Sharing", start "My Computer" and select
Tools | Folder Options | View
Remove the tick from the box "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)".
