Sir Richard Stone Richard Stone (1913-91) is known as the father of national income accounting. He was the main originator of the SAM (Social Accounting Matrix) and was involved from 1960 in developing SAM-based economic models of the UK. He was knighted in 1978 and in 1984 received the Nobel Prize for Economics.
