Renaming old files If you ask ViewHAR to save to a file, it checks to see if you chose the name of an existing file. If so, the existing file is neither deleted nor overwritten but instead is given a new name, invented by ViewHAR (VUHAR001.bak, VUHAR002.bak, etc). Occasionally this strategy will fail (eg, if the existing file is read-only or open in Excel, it cannot be renamed). In that case ViewHAR forces you to choose a different name for the new file. By default, ViewHAR does not warn you before renaming an existing file, but it does alert you afterwards. The File..Options dialog allows you to change this: you can be warned before an old file is renamed, if you like, and you can elect not to be told of it afterwards. Whatever you choose about these messages, ViewHAR still makes the backup files and records their names in the File History. By default, ViewHAR automatically deletes BAK files which are more than 2 days old -- you can control this with File..Options.
