Indiana State Flower(s) Indiana adopted the carnation as its state flower in 1913: but the General Assembly of 1923 chose instead the blossom of the tulip tree: In 1931 the Assembly changed its mind again, choosing the zinnia (persuaded by a powerful zinnia grower): Then in 1957, a Senate committee proposed that this in turn be replaced by the dogwood flower: However, one state representative (who was also a commercial peony grower) persuaded the House to adopt instead the peony: -- which has remained the official state flower ever since.
