Alternative Coefficient Values Files (SLC,UDC,AVC)

When Release 7.0 (or later) GEMSIM or TABLO-generated programs carry out a simulation, they produce a Solution Coefficient Values file with suffix .SLC which contains the pre-simulation values of the coefficients. Release 8.0 (or later) GEMSIM or TABLO-generated programs may also produce an Updated Coefficient Values file with suffix .UDC which contains the post-simulation values of the Coefficients and an Average Coefficient Values file with suffix .AVC which contains the average of the pre-simulation and post-simulation values of the Coefficients. The non-suffix part of the names of these files is the same as that of the Solution file name. [For example, when SJLB.SL4 is created, SJLB.SLC, SJLB.UDC and SJLB.AVC may also be created.]

When you load a Solution file into AnalyseGE, you also need to load an associated file which shows the values of Coefficients. This can be either the Solution Coefficients (.SLC) file, the Updated Coefficient Values (.UDC) file or the Average Coefficient Values (.AVC) file created at the same time (and with the same name apart from suffix) as the Solution file.

If more than one of these files is available, you will be presented with a file dialog box asking you to choose which of these Associated Coefficient Values files you wish to open.

Which Coefficient values you use will affect how accurately expressions (for example, in equations) involving Coefficients and Variables are satisfied. In some cases, using the Average Values (in the AVC file) may reduce discrepancies a little.

SLC, UDC and AVC Files are Header Array files. Accordingly you could open them in ViewHAR and see all the data they contain. The long names tell you the name of the Coefficient whose values are stored at each header.

Since August 2016, the Title bar of the ViewHAR and TABmate windows indicates (after the name of the solution file) whether SLC, UDC or AVC coefficients are being used.

SLC, UDC and AVC files can contain the values of system-initiated coefficients (the ones created by TABLO when you do condensation - see the GEMPACK manual).
