64-bit programs for Unlimited Executable-Image GEMPACK

The download below enables users of Unlimited Executable-Image GEMPACK who are running 64-bit Windows to solve huge models that require more than 4GB of RAM.

Details

The 32-bit programs supplied with the standard Unlimited Executable-Image Version of GEMPACK will run under either 32-bit Windows or under 64-bit Windows. Under 32-bit Windows, each program can use up to 2 GB of RAM, or several programs can together access up to 3.5GB. Under 64-bit Windows, each 32-bit program can use up to 4 GB of RAM, or several programs can access all installed RAM (more details).

For very large models, GEMSIM may require more than 4GB of RAM. For this unusual case we have made available 64-bit versions of TABLO.EXE and GEMSIM.EXE. Please note that to make use of these you must:

have a licence for the Unlimited Executable-Image Version of GEMPACK, Release 11.0 or later.
have a PC with 6 or more GB of RAM running 64-bit Windows.
have already installed and successfully used the standard 32-bit version of the Unlimited Executable-Image Version, Release 11.0 or later.

If these conditions apply, you can simply replace your existing 32-bit versions of TABLO.EXE and GEMSIM.EXE with 64-bit versions. The 64-bit versions of TABLO.EXE and GEMSIM.EXE are contained in a ZIP downloadable from below. However, the ZIP file is password-protected. To find out the password, please email sales@gempack.com, stating your licence serial no. We will send you the password if you are entitled to download.

Download and installation

When you have obtained the ZIP password, please follow these steps:

Locate your GEMPACK folder and rename the existing (32-bit) TABLO.EXE to TABLO32.EXE. Similarly rename GEMSIM.EXE to GEMSIM32.EXE. These steps ensure that you can later restore these programs, if necessary.
Download this file and unzip it into your GEMPACK folder. You should now have 64-bit versions of TABLO.EXE and GEMSIM.EXE. These programs require a suitable release 11 GEMPACK licence to run.
Run TABLO and GEMSIM to test the installation. Any existing GSS and GST files will need to be regenerated.

Restoring the 32-bit version

If you experience problems, you could revert to 32-bit versions of TABLO.EXE and GEMSIM.EXE by:

renaming your (64-bit) TABLO.EXE to TABLO64.EXE, and renaming GEMSIM.EXE to GEMSIM64.EXE.
renaming TABLO32.EXE to TABLO.EXE, and GEMSIM32.EXE to GEMSIM.EXE.

Caveat

The 64-bit version of GEMSIM.EXE does not run faster than the 32-bit version -- its only advantage is that it will solve models that require more than 4GB of memory. Such a large model will not solve quickly! You might consider using the source-code version of GEMPACK, which solves large models faster.
